Marine IT & Network Engineer

Tech - Development Full Time

Role overview

Wormos is hiring a Marine IT & Network Engineer to manage onboard/vessel IT infrastructure and complete network setup for marine operations.

The role covers vessel and office network configuration, Wi-Fi/router setup, PC and software support, satellite/VSAT connectivity coordination, troubleshooting, documentation, and vendor follow-up until issues are resolved.

  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, LAN/WAN, VPN, VLANs, access points, and Wi-Fi coverage.
  • Configure and troubleshoot marine internet systems including VSAT, satellite modem connectivity, backup links, and failover connectivity.
  • Set up and support PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, CCTV/NVR access, IP phones, and network devices.
  • Handle Windows/Linux support, software installation, email clients, user accounts, antivirus, updates, and backups.
  • Diagnose internet, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, DHCP, cabling, firewall, and hardware issues remotely or on site.
  • Coordinate with vessel crew, vendors, ISP/satellite providers, and internal teams for timely closure.
  • Maintain network diagrams, device inventory, configuration backups, service reports, and handover notes.
  • Monitor uptime, bandwidth usage, link stability, and critical alerts.
  • Support basic cybersecurity: firewall rules, access control, endpoint protection, patching, and secure remote access.
  • Visit vessels, ports, or client sites when required for installation, commissioning, inspection, or emergency troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPN, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with routers/firewalls/access points such as MikroTik, Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquiti, TP-Link, or similar.
  • Experience in IT/network support; marine, offshore, vessel, or satellite communication exposure will be preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Windows systems, basic Linux, printers, CCTV/NVR, and common business software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and communicate clearly with crew, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Diploma/B.Tech/B.E. in IT, Computer Science, Electronics, Telecom, Electrical, Marine Electronics, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of relevant IT/network support experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel for vessel/port/site work when required.
